SAP migration is the process of moving the business's data, users, and processes from an existing ERP system to SAP S/4HANA or SAP Business One. You need it if you are still using SAP ECC (support ends 2027), a non-SAP legacy ERP, or a disconnected system that does not support your growth goals.
Every business which is running SAP ECC, an older legacy ERP, or a combination of disconnected tools needs an SAP migration at some point. The question is not whether you should migrate, but which path is the correct one for your business, how much it costs, and how to execute it without causing problems to the existing operations.
| Your Current Situation | Migration Type | Recommended SAP Destination | Urgency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Running SAP ECC (EHP 6–8) | ECC to SAP S/4HANA | SAP S/4HANA (Cloud or On-Premise) | Critical - 2027 deadline |
| Running SAP ECC (EHP 0–5) | ECC to SAP S/4HANA | SAP S/4HANA | Critical - support ended 2025 |
| Running Microsoft Dynamics GP / NAV / AX | Legacy ERP to SAP | SAP Business One or SAP S/4HANA | High - GP support ending 2029 |
| Running Tally / QuickBooks / custom ERP | Non-SAP to SAP | SAP Business One | When growth demands it |
| On-premise SAP, want cloud benefits | On-premise to SAP Cloud | RISE with SAP / SAP S/4HANA Cloud | Strategic priority |
| Multiple legacy systems post-acquisition | System consolidation to SAP | SAP S/4HANA (multi-entity) | High - operational risk |
There are three SAP S/4HANA migration paths. Brownfield (System Conversion) converts your existing ECC system and keeps all the data and customizations. It is the fastest approach with the lowest disruption. Greenfield (New Implementation) rebuilds SAP from the start. It is the cleanest approach but takes the longest. Selective Data Transition (SDT), also known as Bluefield, is a hybrid of the two. It includes migrating only what is worth keeping (selectively) and reengineering the rest of it. Till 2026, SDT makes up for approximately 48% of migrations all over the globe.
| Criteria | Brownfield (System Conversion) | Selective Data Transition (SDT) | Greenfield (New Implementation) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Also known as | System Conversion | Bluefield / Hybrid Migration | New Implementation |
| What moves to SAP S/4HANA | Everything - all data, configs, customizations | Selected data, configs, and processes | Only master data and open transactions |
| Historical data kept | Full | Selective (you define the scope) | Minimal |
| Process re-engineering opportunity | Low | Selective - targeted modules | Full redesign |
| Clean core adoption | Low - legacy debt carried forward | Medium - selective elimination | High - starts clean |
| Typical timeline (single country) | 6–10 months | 9–18 months | 12–18 months |
| Relative cost | Lowest | Medium | Highest (150–300% of Brownfield) |
| Risk of business disruption | Low - minimal process change | Medium - targeted changes | High - full process redesign |
| AI / S/4HANA innovation readiness | Limited (legacy constraints) | Good (selective modernization) | Highest |
| Adoption rate (ISG 2026 research) | 34% | ~48% (Largest Share) | 18% |

Cinntra delivers complete SAP migration services, including ECC to S/4HANA migration, non-SAP legacy migrations, cloud migrations and AMS support after migration.
It is the most time-sensitive migration in the market at the moment. We migrate your SAP ECC system to SAP S/4HANA using Brownfield, Greenfield, or SDT migration techniques. The process is scoped, planned, and executed all before December 2027 when the mainstream support for SAP ECC ends.
Migrate from ERPs such as Tally, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics GP, or any custom legacy ERP to SAP Business One. We extract your master data, clean, map, and load it, open transactions, and financial history without any data loss whatsoever.
Move from your SAP on-premise environment to SAP S/4HANA Cloud – both private and public edition, or RISE with SAP. Cinntra carries out full data migration, system setup, integration testing, and support after go-live.
Data quality is what determines migration success. We analyze your existing data, remove any duplicates, clean and map it, and perform multiple tests before actually migrating.
Many SAP ECC systems have existing custom programs and enhancements. We identify, review, and optimize your custom code to ensure that it works smoothly in SAP S/4HANA before go-live.
Go-live is not where our support ends. Cinntra provides proper Application Management Services (AMS) after migration. We take care of system issues, process queries, user support, and optimize continuously as your team gets used to S/4HANA.
Every SAP migration that we deliver follows a properly structured and proven methodology. No surprises at go-live. Your SAP migration is planned, managed, and delivered by Cinntra in these stages.
Before any work on migration starts, we audit your business’s current environment - SAP ECC setup, custom codes, TPI, volume of data, and business processes. We produce detailed documents including the project timeline with milestones and risks so that you know exactly what you are committing to before the project begins.
Data quality is the major determinant of migration success. We analyze, clean, and validate your business data before migration starts, removing duplicates, and fixing mismatches. Things like master data, financial records, open items, and transactions are then cross-checked with your finance team to ensure a smooth and accurate migration.
We set up and check your SAP S/4HANA environment before migration, configuring finance settings, processes, user access, and integrations. Every configuration is tested in advance, matched with your business needs, and fully written in order to ensure a smooth and reliable go-live.
We extract, map, and transform your data securely for SAP S/4HANA using the proven migration tools. For SDT projects, we clearly specify what data will be kept to ensure that the scope is approved in advance before migration begins.
We run a number of migration tests in the development and QA stage, matching migrated data with actual data from the older source. The key users from various departments like finance, procurement, warehouse, and operations validate the system in UAT. Every mismatch is corrected and approved before go-live is confirmed. We move forward only after your team approves the system and the migrated data.
The highest risk point in any migration is cutover. We plan the cutover window very carefully down to the hour - scheduling data freeze, final migration run, system validation, and go-live approval. Our team oversees the entire cutover, monitors the live system, and keeps the stakeholders posted at every stage. Business restarts only after the system gets approval.
Most migration issues come up on the weeks after go-live. Our hypercare stage provides proper, dedicated support from the same team that carried out the migration and not a generic helpdesk. After hypercare closes, we shift to continuous AMS as your team gets used to the new platform.
Cinntra brings industry-specific SAP knowledge to every migration. Each sector has its own compliance needs, data models, and complex processes - and we take into account all of it before the first migration run.
Discrete as well as process manufacturing migrations that include production planning, batch management, quality control, and plant maintenance. MRP, shop floor processes, and production data are migrated correctly for a smooth shift.
SAP migrations have compliance with GMP, batch traceability, expiry date management, quality management (QM), and regulatory reporting built into the system from the start.
Migrating inventory in a multi-warehouse environment, vendor master matching across records, and redesigning the procurement process for wholesale and distribution businesses.
SAP migrations for 3PL and logistics companies including warehouse management (WM/EWM), transportation, and integration with external TMS and WMS systems.
Migrations that cover integrating POS, inventory from multiple branches, procurement, and customer data without causing a major disturbance to ongoing business operations during cutover.
SAP migrations for construction companies include project-based accounting, procurement, plant and equipment (P&E), and financial consolidation for multiple entities.
Fast-paced migrations for IT companies that have complex revenue recognition, subscription-based billing, multi-currency operations, and a cloud-first system requirement.
There are some questions that business leaders most frequently ask when they evaluate various SAP migration partners. These are Cinntra's direct answers.
Cinntra has delivered many SAP migrations for various industries like manufacturing, pharma, distribution, retail, automotive, professional services, and many more. The consultant who is assigned to you will have prior experience in your sector and won’t be a generic one who only learns about your industry during the project.
Cinntra's migration methodology means we check your data multiple times and complete cross-verification with your finance team before going live. We do not carry out the full migration without fixing every issue and getting the final approval.
Cinntra defines the scope of all migrations well before the work starts and sticks to it. A properly defined scope means that there will be no discrepancies at the time of billing and no change requests in the scope.
We provide proper hypercare immediately after deployment along with continuous AMS support for system issues, queries about process and training users. All of this is handled by the same team which carried out the migration and not a common helpdesk.
Cinntra has successfully implemented SAP for pharmaceutical businesses by following proper GMP compliance. We provide things such as batch traceability, QM, and regulatory reporting requirements. Every one of these is set up before the go-live and not done after.
Every migration done by Cinntra is based on a proper integration architecture. We connect SAP with existing CRM, WMS, e-commerce platforms, etc. These integrations are well documented and are validated multiple times at various stages.
December 31, 2027 - and migrations take 12–24 months. If you haven't started planning, start now.
The first step in any SAP migration is understanding what your environment actually involves. We evaluate the existing system, data volume, custom code, and business needs and give you a documented suggestion before you commit to anything.
Brownfield upgrades your existing SAP ECC system to SAP S/4HANA by keeping your previous data, configurations, and customization. This makes it the fastest approach, which is also the least disruptive one. Greenfield creates a completely new SAP S/4HANA system with fully new business processes to have a clean implementation. SDT combines both of these approaches and allows you to migrate only that data and processes you actually need.
The migration timeline completely depends on factors like your chosen approach, data volume & complexity, customizations, and business needs. Brownfield migrations generally take between 6–10 months; SDT takes 9–18 months, and Greenfield takes 12–18 months, along with an extra 2–3 months for evaluation and planning. When businesses start early, they can reduce project risks and make sure the migration goes smoothly.
The standard support for SAP ECC ends after December 31, 2027, which means that you will not be able to receive regular updates, security fixes, or regulatory changes anymore. Even though extended maintenance is available till 2030 at an extra cost, it is just a temporary option. Migration is not an option and starting it early will reduce your costs and minimize risks.
It depends on the migration approach chosen, complexity of the system, customizations, quality of data, and the number of modules and integrations required. Every business is different in its own way, which is why an accurate estimate needs a detailed assessment of the current environment. Cinntra conducts a migration readiness assessment before starting implementation.
You should choose an SAP migration partner that is an SAP Gold Partner and has certified consultants with experience in all three migration approaches – Brownfield, Greenfield, and SDT. You should ask them about how they manage custom code, data validation, testing, pricing, and support after go-live in order to ensure a smooth migration. Businesses should also request for industry-specific migration case studies and references to understand better their expertise and track record.
Multi-entity and multi-country SAP migrations need proper and careful planning because there are different tax rules, compliance requirements, and business processes. Cinntra follows a specific migration approach wherein we start with a pilot implementation before completely rolling it out in other entities in planned phases. Each of these phases includes multiple tests, data validation, and go-live plan in order to reduce risks and make the migration smooth.
